P!nk’s Historic ‘Summer Carnival’ Tour Broke Several Australian Records

P!nk is close to wrapping up her 20-date Summer Carnival tour across Australia and New Zealand – and as Live Nation revealed today (March 19), she’s broken several major records in the process.

For starters, nearly one million people will have attended the tour by the time it ends this Saturday (March 23, when Alecia Moore performs at the Country Bank Stadium in Townsville). The tour comprises the most stadium shows ever performed, by any artist, on a single tour across Australia and New Zealand.

With so many punters getting down to her timeless pop hits, P!nk has broken the record for the most tickets sold by any female headliner in the region (and she came mighty close to having the highest-ever tour sales in the market, period). Combined with her other five tours of Australia and New Zealand, she’s sold a cumulative total of more than 3.1 million tickets, marking the most of any international performer to tour here.

P!nk also broke attendance records at several of the venues she played, topping the lists at Allianz Stadium in Sydney (Eora) and Marvel Stadium in Melbourne (Naarm), as well as New Zealand’s national venue, Eden Park in Auckland (Tāmaki Makaurau). She was also the first female artist to headline the stadium – incidentally, on International Women’s Day.

In a formal statement, Michael Coppel – Chairman of Live Nation Australasia, and P!nk’s longtime Australian promotor – said of her stacked achievements: “P!nk is one of the most amazing live performers to ever walk onto the stage. I’ve been very privileged to share in her epic 20-year journey in Australia and New Zealand, where she has played more than 200 shows.

There is a palpable mutual love affair between the Australasian audience that love seeing her perform live, and an artist who clearly loves being here. Congratulations, Alecia, on yet another stunning record-breaking tour and on an incredible career, with even greater success surely to come.”

Before the Summer Carnival tour ends on Saturday, P!nk will perform at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane (Meanjin) tonight (March 19), and again at the Country Bank Stadium in Townsville (Gurrumbilbarra) on Friday (March 22).

In a review of the first date on the tour – which she performed at Allianz Stadium on Friday February 9 – Alasdair Belling wrote for TheMusic.com.au: “P!nk is changing what it means to be a pop star, and if this tour is anything to go by, she’s also changing what stadium performance looks like. Perhaps most excitingly of all, P!nk’s music remains as fresh as ever; there was no sense of things feeling recycled.”

Meanwhile, P!nk recently teamed up with Matildas goalie Lydia Williams to help launch her long-awaited Nike collaboration.
