The latest Malayalam romantic comedy, Premalu, has received much appreciation from viewers and critics alike. In addition to the Malayalam-speaking audience, the film is also being widely praised by Telugu audiences. Weeks after its exclusive release in the theaters, the movie was dubbed in Telugu and premiered recently. It minted millions at the box office and has now created history on the OTT platform Aha.
The rom-com follows the story of Sachin (played by Naslen), who navigates through life while juggling his ambition and romance. As he moves to Hyderabad, he meets Reenu and falls in love with her. However, his lady crush does not feel the same way, breaking his heart. What happens next is a series of events that will surely incite laughter and merriment among viewers. Girish A.D. directed the film, while Bhavana Studios produced it.
Malayalam rom-com Premalu scripts history on OTT with its Telugu version
On April 12, 2024, Premalu’s Telugu dubbed version arrived on the OTT platform Aha. The streaming service allegedly bought the film’s digital rights for an exorbitant price, and it seemingly paid off. According to a report by OTTplay, Premalu was trending on Aha in the first position of its top ten list.
What is more remarkable is that it managed to stay on top of the list for the second week as well. The movie has become the first non-Telugu flick to trend for so long on the streaming service. However, on Monday, April 22, Premalu fell to second place as the Telugu film My Dear Donga topped the list.
Despite the movie’s step down from the trending list, its makers have good news for fans. They have officially announced Premalu 2 and confirmed that the sequel will be released in 2025.
For the unversed, the Malayalam, Hindi, and Tamil versions of Premalu are available on Disney+ Hotstar.
