Roswell locals can get free storm-spotter training

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – If you want to get more involved in helping your community respond to severe weather, becoming a storm spotter might be a great option. And there’s a free class in Roswell to train locals to do just that.

The Roswell/Chaves County Office of Emergency Management is working with the Pecos Valley Amateur Radio Club to host the annual class at the Daniels Leadership Center at the New Mexico Military Institute campus. The event is scheduled for April 16 at 6:00 p.m., and pre-registration is not required.

During a two-hour class, individuals will learn about safety, terminology, and reporting of severe weather. Meteorologists from the National Weather Service ill discuss tornadoes, downburst winds, and other extreme-weather events.

Once trained, storm spotters will join the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. As part of that network, storm spotters will help call-in and report severe weather.
