This winter, Slightly Stoopid will invite fans to Riviera Maya, Mexico, for the 10th annual Closer to the Sun, the band’s beloved concert vacation. From December 11-15, the band returns to the Hard Rock Hotel for a reprieve from the weather and a reunion with its public, offering an all-inclusive destination event complete with yoga, music workshops, and basketball games with all-star artists.
Beyond the beachy ska-punk outfit, which is slated for multiple shows over the course of the event, the lineup includes Stick Figure, Iration, Fortunate Youth, The Elovaters, Z-Trip Eli-Mac and Tropidelic, all of which will play twice across four evenings. The recently reunited Sublime with Jakob Nowell is also set to perform, as will Cypress Hill, G. Love & Donavon Frankenreiter and Boostive. Fans can attend Main Stage performances on the Concert Courtyard stage, daytime and sunset shows at the Beach Stage, and nighttime performances on the Late Night Stage, with poolside pop-ups interspersed throughout the four-day affair.
This year’s event will offer extended amenities at a second all-inclusive resort, with access to additional beaches, pools and restaurants nearby. Positive Legacy—a nonprofit organization that provides emergency hunger and medical relief to community members and invests in environmental preservation in the Riviera Maya area—will also have a presence throughout the event. Other concert vacation events and experiences by Cloud 9 Adventures include Jam Cruise, My Morning Jacket’s One Big Holiday, Panic en la Playa (feat. Widespread Panic) and Strings & Sol.
For headliner and musical host Slightly Stoopid, Closer to the Sun marks the end of a busy tour cycle, as they announced their 2024 Slightly Dirty Summer Tour with Dirty Heads last month. Common Kings, The Elovaters, Fortunate Youth and Hirie + The Expendables will join the bands on select dates. The tour is set to begin on July 11 in Cleveland at Jacobs Pavilion and conclude on September 1 in Oklahoma City, with shows all across the country, including Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and California’s Shoreline Amphitheatre.
