Time for a crafty snack: the art of crocheting food – in pictures

Based in Närpes, Finland, Maria Skog began crocheting foods when her daughters were small with the intention of making a cafe for them to play with. “I was diagnosed with a serious illness and found it meditative and calming,” she says. Over the years, the girls grew up, but she kept on crocheting. Colour is often the starting point. “I see the yarn and then my brain makes associations. If I see a beetroot shade, then I search for the right green to complete it.” At the moment, she’s focusing on snacks. “Sweets, shrimps, popcorn. I love to crochet small items. It’s time-consuming because they’re so detailed, but nothing’s too tricky.”
