This is serious, mum: the country’s favourite alternative jokesters, TISM, have dropped a mini album of “not as good” alternative outtakes from 1992’s The Beasts Of Suburban EP (inspired by the Beasts Of Bourbon).
“Scraped off the cutting room floor to promote the Beasts Of Suburban box set, this mini-album contains alternative versions of each of the seven tracks from the original,” TISM wrote in a social media post announcing the new Alternative Beasts Of Suburban release.
Writing that the alternative versions are “not as good as the final official release” or as good as the alternative versions you can find in the Beasts Of Suburban box set (“that’s the one you really need to get”), the band state that this collection is “for the deeply committed TISM aficionado”.
“These versions are certainly interesting, if only for the distorted live in the rehearsal studio audio quality,” they added. “And if money’s a bit tight – it’s free. Though we would encourage a payment of what you feel is reasonable, as the band have asked us to replace the costumes that were shredded and thrown to the crowd at the Launceston Mona show.”
Alternative Beasts Of Suburban is indeed free to listen to and download from Bandcamp, but fans also have the opportunity to name their price and buy it if they’re keen. You can check out the EP of outtakes here.

An instant earworm, the song is anchored by a catchy beat and nonsensical lyrics sure to delight their army of fans awaiting the return of the enigmatic seven-person band.
In November 2022, TISM played their first show in 18 years with a surprise gig at Melbourne’s Croxton Bandroom.
Fans lucky enough to make it witnessed TISM open the show with The Art/Income Dialect and heard all the favourites, such as I Drive A Truck, Whatareya?, Greg! The Stop Sign!!, Saturday Night Palsy, Death Death Death Amway Amway Amway and Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me.
