Triple-digit heat to monsoon storms ahead

Yesterday’s isolated thunderstorms have left behind some scattered clouds with mostly rain-free conditions this morning across the region.

As a high pressure system temporarily buildings overhead across New Mexico, enough stable air will limit thunderstorms to the mountains of The Gila National Forest and farther east to the plains with flash flooding in the burn-scar areas possible, but not as likely as days past. Only a few thunderstorms will form in The Rio Grande Valley as temperatures will skyrocket for most with an elevated fire weather risk, especially around Ruidoso.

However, as the high pressure system quickly moves east tomorrow, Pacific moisture, combining with Gulf of Mexico moisture, will produce more-spread stronger thunderstorms with flash flooding, small hail, frequent lightning, and erratic winds more likely.
