Valparaiso man killed in March 27 multi-vehicle wreck identified

The Porter County Coroner’s Office and the Valparaiso Police Department have released the name of the person killed in a three-vehicle accident last week.

Barry Hughes, 68, of Valparaiso, died at the scene of the accident on Wednesday, March 27, at the intersection of Valparaiso Street and Vale Park Road.

The cause of death is listed as a massive head injury resulting from the motor vehicle accident and the manner of death is listed as an accident, according to a release from Coroner Cyndi Dykes.

Valparaiso Police responded around 12:40 p.m. that day to the intersection of Vale Park Road and Valparaiso Street for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Police learned the crash involved three vehicles and in Hughes’ death, according to a release from Capt. Joe Hall, public information officer for the police department.

Occupants of other vehicles reported several minor injuries and they were treated on scene.

The crash investigation remains open, however, charges related to the crash are not expected at this time.

The Valparaiso Fire Department and the city of Valparaiso Public Works assisted.
