Video: Man tells BCSO deputy he paid for ‘rental’ vehicle with drugs

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — A man with a warrant for not showing up to court after running from police in December was allegedly involved in another chase in February. This time, the Albuquerque Police Department’s (APD) helicopter was able to follow along as the suspect tried to avoid capture on the Pajarito Mesa.

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies attempted to stop a car without a license plate in southwest Albuquerque back on February 22. The driver was later identified as Robert Deherrera. Metro-One followed along after the deputies backed off.

Deherrera reportedly went down dirt roads in the Pajarito Mesa, nearly crashing.

Deputies caught up, used a pit maneuver, and took him into custody. He’s seen, on video, offering one of the deputies a gift (marijuana and ‘blues’), before telling the deputy he had a warrant out and explaining why he ran.

When asked where he got the vehicle, that was reported stolen, he said he rented it.

Deherrera allegedly said it cost 20 fentanyl pills to rent the vehicle, which made no sense to the deputy.

Deherrera has pleaded not guilty to aggravated fleeing and receiving a stolen vehicle…He is being held on pretrial detention. He had a warrant out for failure to appear after fleeing from police back in December when he was caught with burglary tools.
