The Gorillaz frontman appeared at the third night of Thundercat’s four-night residency at London’s KOKO venue on Friday April 5 as part of his UK tour.

Albarn joined the bassist towards the end of his set. Together they performed ‘Oh Sheit It’s X’, ‘Funny Thing’, ‘Them Changes’ and Gorillaz ‘Cracker Island’, the lead track from the animated band’s album of the same name in which Thundercat was originally featured on.

In a four-star review of the second night of Thundercat’s KOKO residency, NME shared: “Now at the midway point of his four sold-out shows in Camden and in the final stretch of his European tour dates, no one would blame him for playing it safe with last night’s show in London. However, the set seems to prove the opposite, with the singer, songwriter and bassist steering clear of back-to-back hits, and instead showcasing a sonically-rich snapshot of his extensive career.”

It continued: “While some of the charm of Thundercat shows is undeniably lost by removing some fan favourites and reinterpreting each song on the setlist with virtuosic and spontaneous improvisation, the London set shows that the bass legend is still at the top of his game, and able to captivate his audience in a way quite unlike anyone else in 2024.”

In other news, Thundercat is set to perform at this year’s All Points East in Victoria Park later this summer. He will also play this year’s edition of Bonaroo.

As for Albarn, him and his Blur bandmates are set to play an intimate warm-up show ahead of their performance at this year’s edition of Coachella.

The gig will take place on Wednesday, April 10 at the Fox Theatre in Pomona, California roughly three days before the band are due to hit the stage at Coachella on Saturday, April 13.
