Cooler and rainier weekend around New Mexico

A backdoor cold front has moved into central New Mexico Friday morning, bringing cooler morning temperatures for central and eastern NM. Meanwhile, the Four Corners is much warmer this morning. The backdoor cold front has brought breezy winds into the Metro, but the winds will lighten and come in from the southwest at 15 to 30 mph today. Skies will be partly sunny across the state, with the cloudiest conditions in southeast NM. Temperatures will be back in the 60s, 70s and 80s. The southeast plains will cool down about 8 to 20 degrees compared to Thursday, but the rest of the state will see similar temperatures to Thursday.

The cold front will surge west again Saturday morning, bringing strong east canyon winds, up to around 45 mph, into the Metro during the morning hours. Winds will die down throughout the late morning. The Rio Grande Valley will be around 5 to 10 degrees cooler on Saturday, with partly cloudy skies, and a slight chance for virga or a storm Saturday afternoon and evening. The mountains of central and northern NM will see the best chance for storms or showers Saturday afternoon and evening. The east side of the state will wake up to low clouds, drizzle and rain Saturday morning, and it will stay like that all day, keeping temperatures another 20 degrees colder. Highs will only top out in the 40s, 50s and 60s.
