DAILY NEWS BASEBALL TOP 10

(Records through Sunday, April 7)

1. Harvard-Westlake (15-3-1 overall, 10-1-1 in Mission League)

The Wolverines lost to Villa Park 3-2 last week before coming back to beat Orange Lutheran 2-1. Duncan Martsen gave up three hits while striking out five in five innings against Orange Lutheran and Bryce Rainer pitched two innings of relief with one hit given up and one strikeout. Ira Rootman was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Michael Gonzalez was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

This week Harvard-Westlake heads to North Carolina for the National High School Baseball Invitational.

2. Chaminade (14-6, 8-4 in Mission League)

Chaminade won two games and lost one during last week’s break in Mission League action. The Eagles beat Kennedy 17-6 and Campbell Hall 2-1 before falling to Paraclete 12-6.

Adam Batmanian pitched six innings and yielded one run and seven hits and also recorded nine strikeouts in the win over Campbell Hall. Vinny Van der Wel was 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and Ryan Silver was 2 for 3 with a triple. Matt Churchill was 1 for 4 with an RBI.

3. Calabasas (12-6, 4-2 Marmonte League)

The Coyotes picked up two wins, over Rio Mesa and Villa Park, last week and will return to Marmonte League play this week with a three-game series against Thousand Oaks.

Calabasas will look to separate itself in the league standings with three weeks left in the league season. There is currently a three-way tie for first place between Calabasas, Westlake and Oaks Christian who are each 4-2 in league.

4. Westlake (15-3, 4-2 Marmonte League)

The Paso Robles tournament went well for the Warriors, who earned two wins and were dealt one loss in the event. The biggest margin of victory was against Turlock, 4-1.

Johnny Backus went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a double in the win. Caden Atkinson was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Nate Johnson was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

5. West Ranch (14-5-1, 7-1 Foothill League)

The Wildcats beat Cypress in the National Classic tournament opener but then dropped tournament games to Notre Dame and Mira Costa by one run each.

Jackson Banuelos pitched 6 1/3 innings against Cypress and struck out six hitters before Ricky Sturm came in for the save. Aidan Buntich was 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI, Nolan Stoll was 2 for 2 with a double, an RBI and a run and Landon Hu was 2 for 3 with a run.

6. Sierra Canyon (12-6-2, 4-4-2 Mission League)

Sierra Canyon shut out Saugus and Burbank and beat Warren by two runs in its week away from Mission League play.

Greyson Gullage hit two home runs in one week — one against Warren and one against Burbank. Dezi Delgado also hit a home run against Warren. The Trailblazers resume Mission League play with two games against Crespi this week.

7. Notre Dame (13-6-1, 5-4-1 Mission League)

The Knights knocked off Arcadia, West Ranch, Servite and El Dorado to win the National Classic tournament and continue an eight-game win streak that goes back to March 19.

Levi Sterling pitched a complete-game shutout in the win over El Dorado in the final and gave up three hits while recording eight strikeouts. Sterling went 1 for 2 with two RBIs at the plate and Jacob Madrid was 3 for 3 with a run, an RBI and a double.

8. Hart (15-5, 4-2 Foothill League)

Hart was inactive last week and was coming off two losses to Saugus. It will play two games against Castaic this week and will have three games left in the Foothill League.

9. Burroughs (14-3, 7-1 Pacific League)

The Bears had only one game over their spring break and lost to Sylmar. Burroughs is tied for second place in the Pacific League and resumes league play this week against Pasadena.

10. Birmingham (10-6-1, 5-0 West Valley League)

The Patriots are still first in the West Valley League after beating Chatsworth 4-3 on Wednesday. Carlos Esparza had two hits, including a double, and a stolen base and three runs in the win. Jayb Dalumpines had two hits, a run, a stolen base and an RBI while Sebastian Valadez had two hits and two RBIs.

Next five to watch: Granada Hills Charter (11-6, 4-1 West Valley League); Oaks Christian (9-9, 4-2 Marmonte League); Newbury Park (11-6, 3-3 Marmonte League); Royal (15-7, 5-3 Coastal Canyon League); Saugus (7-12, 5-3 Foothill League).
