Golf instructor Hank Haney, who coached Tiger Woods, sells Lake Forest mansion for $2M

Golf instructor Hank Haney, who is known for having coached Tiger Woods, and his wife, Suzanne, sold their five-bedroom mansion in Lake Forest for $1.97 million, two months after the couple upsized by paying $3.8 million in January for a newly built, six-bedroom mansion in Glencoe.

A Deerfield native, Haney, 68, was an assistant golf pro at Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park before moving to Dallas and running a corporation that operated golf schools. After coaching Woods for many years, Haney wrote a 2012 book about Woods titled “The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods.”

In Lake Forest, the Haneys paid $1.91 million in late 2022 for the 6,159-square-foot house they sold on March 12. Built in 1931, and designed by architect David Adler, the house once was a coach house for the Albert Lasker estate. It has 5-1/2 bathrooms, four fireplaces, a Ludowici clay tile roof, hand-stained hardwood floors, millwork, a brass staircase, a kitchen with quartzite countertops and professional-grade appliances, two first-floor bedrooms and a primary bedroom suite with a remodeled primary bathroom.

Outside on the 1.75-acre property are a bluestone patio with a pergola and a built-in fire pit.

The Haneys’ new 8,400-square-foot house in Glencoe has 6-1/2 bathrooms, two fireplaces, a living room with a limestone mantel and custom shelving, a primary bedroom suite with LED lights and a heated bathroom floor, and a kitchen with leather-finished marble, two islands, custom cabinetry and Wolf and Thermador appliances. The second-floor primary bedroom suite has custom shelving and LED lights and a heated bathroom floor, while the lower level has a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a large fitness room with a sauna and shower and a rec room.

Outside on the 0.39-acre property are a patio with a grilling station, an in-ground heated swimming pool and a separate pool house with a shower and a bathroom.

The Glencoe mansion was first listed for just under $5 million, back in 2022, and sold after several price cuts brought its final asking price to just under $4 million. Meanwhile, in Lake Forest, the Haneys first listed their home in June for $2.09 million, and they cut their asking price to $1.99 million in December.

Samantha Trace, who represented the Haneys in selling the Lake Forest home, declined to comment on the sale or why the couple sold in Lake Forest after such a short period of ownership.

The Lake Forest mansion had a $29,179 property tax bill in the 2022 tax year. Because the Glencoe mansion is newly built, its $32,790 property tax bill in the 2022 tax year is not indicative of its full value.
