High school football Saturday highlights – Week 1

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The opening week of high school football came to a close with Saturday’s slate of games. Here’s a look at some of the scores and highlights.

Eldorado made the trip down to Las Cruces to play Organ Mountain at the Field of Dreams. The difference in the game came down to a kick return, as Eldorado’s Jahari Morehead went 76 yards into the end zone. Eldorado won 21-12.

6A West Mesa hosted 4A St. Pius at community stadium. The Sartans were able to hang with the Mustangs in the first half, but West Mesa ran away with the game in the second half. West Mesa won 48-29.

Del Norte and Hope Christian met up at Milne stadium. The Knights looked much improved on both sides of the ball and even capped off a 99 yard touchdown drive, but the Huskies went on to win 25-14.

Clovis and Farmington were originally scheduled to play on Friday night, however the game was push back to Saturday due to weather. Despite the delay, the Scorpions didn’t miss a beat, as Farmington won 48-7.

Class 3A defending champ St. Michael’s opened its season with an interim head coach against Taos. The Horsemen picked up where they left off, as they won 42-0.
