INSCOP: Putin & Trump: Most Known, Least Trusted by Romanians

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, the former American President Donald Trump, King Charles and the US President, Joe Biden, are on the first places in terms of notoriety among Romanians, according to a survey conducted by INSCOP on behalf of News.ro. At the opposite end are Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, and Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, the least known among Romanians. Conversely, Romanians have the least confidence in the most well-known world leaders.

The notoriety of international leaders

99.5% of Romanians declare that they have heard of Vladimir Putin, according to the INSCOP survey. The president of Russia is followed by Donald Trump, the former president of the USA, with 96.4% notoriety, King Charles of Great Britain, with 93.3%, and Joe Biden, the current president of the USA, with 92.1%. The ranking is continued by Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, with 89.1% notoriety, Maia Sandu, the president of the Republic of Moldova, with 79.3%, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, with 71.7%, and Olaf Scholz, the chancellor Germany, with 65.9%.

Trust in international leaders

King Charles of Great Britain leads the trust ranking, with 56.2% a lot and a lot of trust. The British monarch is followed by Maia Sandu, the president of the Republic of Moldova, with 34% trust a lot and very much, and Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, with 32%. Men, people over the age of 45, people with higher education, white-collar workers and those with a higher income tend to trust Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, the most.

Maia Sandu is trusted by men, people over the age of 45, people with higher education, white-collar workers, urban dwellers, those with a higher income.

Men, people over the age of 45, people with higher education, white-collar workers, those with a higher income trust Olaf Scholz in a higher proportion than the rest of the population.

King Charles of Great Britain enjoys high trust especially from the following population categories: men, people over 45 years of age, people with higher education, passive inactives, white collar workers, urban dwellers, those with a higher income.

Donald Trump is trusted especially by men, young people under 30 and blue-collar workers. People with higher education, white-collar workers, those with a higher income and state employees tend to trust Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, the most. In the case of Vladimir Putin, the distribution of answers (the low share of those who trust a lot and very much) does not allow a segmentation according to the main socio-demographic criteria.
