Windy weather with some showers and cooler temperatures

Thursday morning is off to a cooler, clear and calm start. Sunshine is expected statewide until midday, and then more clouds and showers will build into northwest New Mexico. There will be a chance for showers and storms in the west mountains, Four Corners and northern mountains, but the rest of the state will stay dry.

The winds will be very gusty from late this morning, until late this evening. High wind warnings and wind advisories will be in effect today for all of eastern and southern New Mexico, where 55 to 65 mph wind gusts are expected. The winds will gust up to around 35 to 45 in the middle Rio Grande Valley, and even lighter in the Four Corners. Red flag warnings will be in effect for most of the state, including Albuquerque and Santa Fe, due to the high winds, dry air, and therefore, high fire danger. Temperatures will cool down in central and western NM today, but the east plains will stay hot.
