DAILY NEWS FOOTBALL TOP 10

1. Sierra Canyon (1-0 overall, 0-0 Mission League)

The Trailblazers have returners at multiple key positions, including running back Dane Dunn, quarterback Wyatt Becker, receiver Jae’on Young, defensive back Madden Riordan and defensive end Richard Wesley. They have the potential to pick up where they left off last season as they journey toward the Division 1 CIF Southern Section playoffs.

They already have a win under their belts after traveling to Hawaii and defeating Punahou 30-7 last week. Dunn had 135 rushing yards and one touchdown on 18 carries.

2. Oaks Christian (0-0 overall, 0-0 Marmonte League)

The Marmonte League has a new look, but Oaks Christian is still the dominant team. Four-star defensive end Hayden Lowe spearheads a stalwart, experienced defense that also has support from linebacker Christian Knoos.

Quarterback Axel Eason and tight end Stevie Amar can set the tone for the offense in Friday’s matchup against Chaminade.

3. Valencia (0-0 overall, 0-0 Foothill League)

Four-star running back Brian Bonner will be difficult to stop and Brady Bretthauer’s potential at quarterback will give the Vikings options in their offense. Nick Seymour is one of the best two-way threats at receiver and safety.

Next: at Simi Valley, 7 p.m., Friday

4. Newbury Park (0-0 overall, 0-0 Conejo Coast League)

The Panthers’ offense can take control of the newly formed Conejo Coast League. But first, there are some nonleague games to get through. Pocket passer and Florida State commit Brady Smigiel will team up with two-way player Shane Rosenthal and there are plenty of other options in the passing game in Blake Bryce and Beau Smigiel.

5. Chaminade (0-0 overall, 0-0 Mission League)

Fourteen starters will return on Friday night as the Eagles come into this season with much more experience than the last. Logan Carpenter’s athleticism on offense and defense will be invaluable and Ishmael Gibbs will play a critical role in the secondary.

6. Thousand Oaks (0-0 overall, 0-0 in Conejo Coast League)

Quarterback Jackson Taylor will lead the offense and linebacker Cory McEnroe will lead the defense, although the latter can contribute on offense as well at tight end or fullback. Returners on the offensive line and a few transfers make the Lancers one of the most intriguing teams in the rankings.

7. St. Francis (0-0 overall, 0-0 Angelus League)

John Sanders returns for his senior year to lead the Golden Knights at quarterback and Thomas Deluccia looks to make an impact in his second year as a starter at defensive end.

Next: at St. Bonaventure, 7 p.m., Thursday

8. Paraclete (0-0 overall, 0-0 Angelus League)

Three-star corner Stacy Gentle will be the heart of the Spirits’ defense this season and Jaylin Wilson’s speed at corner, receiver and special tams will be an asset. Wilson ran a personal best of 21.93 seconds in the 200-meter dash in the most recent track and field season.

Next: at Garces Memorial, 7:30 p.m., Friday

9. Notre Dame (0-0 overall, 0-0 Mission League)

The Knights’ fleet-footed offense is led by dual-threat QB Steele Pizzella (Washington State commit) and four upperclassman receivers. The secondary is held down by college prospects Hayden Bowne, Ehimen Oyamendan and Carson Brewster.

10. Birmingham Charter (0-0 overall, 0-0 West Valley League)

It won’t be easy to knock the Patriots from their consistent position at the top of the West Valley League standings. Darrell Stanley will fit right into the offense at running back after transferring from Granada Hills and All-City linebacker Eddie Plaza brings leadership and experience to the defense. Birmingham is in it for the long haul this season.
