Garcia’s Kitchen hit fifth time with gas theft

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Garcia’s Kitchen is running out of patience and gas after a thief got creative while stealing it right out of their catering vans. Now they’re offering a reward for information leading to his arrest.

The owners say someone is stealing the gas out of their catering vans and it happened for a fifth time on Sunday at their Central location. “They’re getting maybe five to ten dollars worth of gas and they’re costing us over $2,000 for each van,” the owners say.

Because they aren’t siphoning the gas out, they’re punching holes in the gas tanks, and, “you cannot patch these gas tanks, you have to replace them,” they say. That adds up to more than $10,000 in repair costs.

Garcia’s owners say this leaves the catering department without the vans they need. That means lost revenue with vans coming in and out of the shop for repairs.

Garcia’s has also spent more money on additional security cameras and lights and is willing to spend even more if the man is caught. Garcia’s Kitchen is worried there may be other victims and is hoping they will come forward with additional information to hep police catch this man.
