Powerball lottery jackpot grows to $1.09 billion after months without a big winner

LOS ANGELES — There were no tickets sold with all six numbers in the latest drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery, pushing the estimated jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing to $1.09 billion, the ninth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot.

There were six tickets sold with five numbers but missing the Powerball number — two in Maryland and one each in Florida, Minnesota, North Carolina and Virginia. They are each worth $1 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game.

The numbers drawn Monday were 19, 24, 40, 42 and 56, and the Powerball number was 23. The estimated jackpot was $1.03 billion, the 10th-largest US lottery jackpot.
