Today will be a nicer day than Thursday. The winds will stay lighter, only gusting at 30-40 mph. There will be Red Flag Warnings and high fire danger in the middle Rio Grande Valley, east plains and northeast highlands. Skies will be mostly sunny, but clouds will move into central and northwest NM this afternoon and evening. A few showers will be possible in the Four Corners, near Farmington and Durango. Rain will continue to build into western and central NM overnight.
The next storm will move into the state Saturday, bringing more widespread showers and thunderstorms to central, western and northern NM. Winds will be breezy statewide, and gusty in the east/southeast. The winds there will gust up to around 55 mph, and there will be high fire danger due to the dry conditions. Temperatures will stay about ten degrees cooler, thanks to the rain and clouds. The weather will clear up on Sunday, with lighter winds and warmer temperatures.
